MASSACHUSETTS DELEGATION. BALTIMORE CONVENTION. 1840.SKU 01220B
Rare, early ribbon from the 1840 Democratic National Convention in Baltimore, which renominated Martin Van Buren for president. 2 1/2 x 8", in excellent condition. It's interesting to note that the Convention refrained from nominating a vice presidential candidate. Richard Johnson, who served as Van Buren's VP, had an open, long-term relationship with a female slave, with whom the unmarried Johnson had two children.
