Ribbon and playbill from Ulysses S. Grant's visit to Chicago, both dated November 18th, 1879. The large 2 3/4 x 12 3/4" ribbon is faded and reads "SOUVENIR GEN. GRANT'S VISIT TO CHICAGO...(Owl) CLUB...2nd REGIMENT I.N.C. Nov. 18th, 1879". The double-sided playbill is 6 1/2 x 10 3/8", in excellent condition and mentions that "The Theatre will be decorated on this occasion by the members of the SECOND REGIMENT, I.N.G., and THE OWL CLUB, as a token of their respect to GENERAL U.S. GRANT, Who will honor with his presence the first production of an American Opera in Chicago."
