Silk ribbon issued by the UNION LEAGUE OF PHLADELPHIA for the burial of Senator Thaddeus Stevens August 17, 1868. 2 3/8 x 6 1/2". An historic ribbon in excellent condition with some hand-written pencil notes top and bottom. Stevens was a member of Congress from Pennsylvania and a fierce opponent of slavery and discrimination against black Americans during the Civil War era and through Reconstruction.
