Pinback button promoting Reverend Charles E. Bentley for president (National Party), 1896. Extremely rare 7/8" cello with Whitehead & Hoag Co. backpaper in excellent condition. Bentley had been an active member of the Prohibition Party, but at its National Convention in 1896, the Prohibition Party refused to add women's suffrage and free silver to the platform - Bentley, former Prohibition Party presidential candidate John St. John, and others led a walkout and bolted to form the National Party.
