KEEP OFF THE GRASS COXEY Still pleads for the Passage of his Good Roads ...

SKU 05914B
Silk ribbon supporting Jacob S. Coxey (featuring an image of him behind bars), issued following one of the earliest protest marches in 1894 in Washington, D.C., where Coxey organized hundreds of jobless men to demand that the U.S. government hire the unemployed to fix the nation's roads. Coxey and some of his followers were arrested for trespassing after walking on the U.S. Capitol lawn. Coxey ran for literally dozens of local political offices in Ohio as a Republican, a Democrat, an Independent, Greenback Party, and People's Party, and later in life was the Farmer-Labor candidate for president in 1932. This ribbon is 1 1/2 x 4 3/4" and in excellent condition.
