"CIRCULAR" encourage participation among qualified, Christian women to take a bigger role in the education system. 8 x 9 3/4". Four pages (one sheet) postally used, and dated April 1840. This was sent by Catharine E. Beecher to a Rev. E.F. Hatfield in New York City, with hand-written notations by Ms. Beecher on the last page. Mentions Miss C. E. Beecher and Mrs. H.B. Stowe as prominent participants in this cause. Beecher was an American educator known for her strong opinions on female education. Stowe as an American abolitionist and author of many books which took on social issues of the day, including Uncle Tom's Cabin. Quite rare, very early, and in excellent condition.
