DAUGHTERS OF LIBERTY FIDELITY PATRIOTISM INTEGRITY (sterling silver)

Enamel on sterling silver with brass shield badge issued by the Daughters of Liberty, circa late 1880's. 1 7/8 x 4 1/2" overall and in excellent condition with minor surface tarnish on the enameled flag. The flag portion and the badge portion at top are both marked STERLING, and the brass shield component is inscribed PAT. AUG 3 87 NATIONAL COUNCIL D OF L. TRADE MARK. An ornate and beautiful badge which features a Miss Liberty figure holding the scales of justice in one hand and an American flag in the other. The group was founded during the American Revolution and displayed their patriotism by boycotting British goods - especially tea - and used their skills to weave yarn and wool into cloth, making America less dependent on British textiles.
