Pinback button promoting Barry Goldwater for president and Pennsylvania Governor William Scranton for vice president, 1964. Scarce 1" cello in excellent condition. Intended to suggest a compromise ticket, as the two men battled over the civil rights plank of the Republican Platform put forth at the Republican National Convention in San Francisco. Just days after the convention chose Goldwater as their nominee, Scranton lamented that the odds of a Goldwater victory were "...so long that only the most optimistic partisan would have anything but a glimmer of hope."
