Description

Large poster honoring Henry Clay, c. 1840's-1852. 21 x 26". Light toning and several trivial chips along the extreme left and right edges. The top horizontal margin appears to have been trimmed. Inscriptions at the bottom read: "After BRADY'S Daguerreotype...Published by COUPIL & CO. Paris-New York-London-Berlin...Drawn on stone by LAFOSSE". Our research indicates that this printer was in business as early as the mid-1840's. Our best guess is that this was printed in the late 1840's, certainly no later than Clay's death in 1852. This attractive color-tinted print deserves to be matted and framed.
