Description
Ashtray from the 1972 Republican National Convention in San Diego (which was never held). 4 1/2" diameter, in excellent condition. Columnist Jack Anderson discovered a memo written by a lobbyist for the International Telephone and Telegraph Corp. suggesting that the company pledge $400,000 toward the San Diego bid in return for the U.S. Department of Justice settling its antitrust case against ITT. Fearing a scandal, the GOP transferred the event - just three months before it was to begin - to Miami Beach, where Richard Nixon would be nominated for president and Spiro Agnew for vice president.
