Description
Hand-colored print from London. 7 1/4 x 17 1/4". Light foxing and four vertical folds. Amelia Jenks Bloomer - a temperance and suffrage activist - popularized women's bloomers. In his terrific book entitled Women's Suffrage Memorabilia, Ken Florey explains: "...the new form of dress was a woman's rights issued, not only because of Bloomer's suffrage sympathies, but also because it addressed the topic of women's freedom in terms of her right to be comfortable in what she wore."
